2012 - 2013
This year, the San Diego NAMI Walk was held on April 21 in Balboa Park. With 3,300 walkers in attendance, this year drew in the largest number of walkers to date.
The NAMI Walk is an annual walk held every year to raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness.
UCSD Active Minds teamed up with UCSD Psi Chi Club this year to participate in the walk under the team name of " Students of UC San Diego." As a combined group we had a total of 16 walkers.
Active Minds invited students to come and smash plates at Sun God lawn.
The event was hosted on October 31st (Halloween) in efforts to relieve stress for those taking midterms or struggling with other issues.
We did not encourage anger but good [safe] fun!
The community wall was our first activity to kick off our "Speak Up, Reach Out" campaign.
The event was held on the first day of school, September 25th, outside of Thurgood Marshall administrative building.
Our goal was to get others talking about mental health through art, and to think of their well-being as they start off the new year.
NEDA week is a national week dedicated to building awareness about eating disorders and body image in our society.
As our very first event of Active Minds at UC San Diego, we participated by tabling library walk during NEDA week with information and some activities that followed the annual theme "do just one thing."
After signing the pledge to do just one thing, participants could use our whiteboard and write a message related to eating disorders, their body image or something nice and inspirational.
